Yes, there is math, but it is more physics - angle of release, application of force etc. Shot putters though, at least the ones I have known over 40 years of throwing, at most think about simple concepts like angle of release. read more
Field Events. You use math when doing field events such as shot put, high jump, and long jump because you have to calculate how far you threw the shot put, how high you jumped during high jump, and how long you jumped during long jump.
