The most notorious of all these routes is L888 which travels over the Himalayas and is the only route I can think of where passenger planes rarely take it because the potential for extreme turbulence is so high. Just after they served coffe and tea, we encountered severe turbulence. It was of short duration, but the aftermath was spectacular, a plane load of soaked, burned and coffe stained PAX. 2.
