Japan is very homogenous. About 98.5% of its population is Yamato Japanese, so black women are not often seen, so they stand out. Although outright racism is not very common in Japan, subconscious racism will affect the lives of black women, as it does in countries like the US. read more

People need to get used to the fact that not all non-Asian people are foreign (i.e. there are 100% legally Japanese people born in Japan who speak only Japanese, but don't look asian), and certainly not all foreign people in Japan are non-Asian (most of them are Chinese or Korean). read more
