Like Bastet, Sekhmet was revered as a mother, protector and warrior goddess. Sekhmet was ferocious to those who sought to injure her charges. She was also a goddess of sexual desire. I stood in front of a statue of Sekhmet in a museum many years ago. It was a great piece made of black granite and it caught me unaware. read more

Both Goddesses are closely connected to the sun god Ra. Both females are at times Goddesses of the Sun; the difference is that Bastet is the mild heat from the sun, on like good days.
