At NYPD, patrol units are mostly identified by their precinct numbers and patrol beats. The first patrol beat at the 13th Precinct will be called 13-Adam (or Alpha—I don’t know which phonetic alphabet NYPD uses), the second 13-Boy or Bravo, and so on.
