The other parts of the engine were made from steel or cast iron, with the exception of the spark points which contained tiny bits of platinum. On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk with their first powered aircraft. The Wright brothers had invented the first successful airplane. read more
Since 2003 it has resided in a special exhibit in the museum titled"The Wright Brothers and the Invention of the Aerial Age," honoring the Wright Brothers in recognition of the 100th anniversary of their first flight. read more
