What is your favourite rare opera?

Salvador Dali's lost opera, Etre Dieu was released as a rare velvet-bound 3 disc set with a 326 page book. The opera is a six-part Dadaist work and features Dali as God, Brigitte Bardot as an artichoke and Catherine the Great and Marilyn Monroe doing a striptease. read more

The Met performs this on a ten-year cycle; the last was 2013. The San Francisco Opera performed in it 1966 (abbreviated) and in 2015. It is tremendously expensive to produce. read more

But when I remember me French, I do think my favorite opera is Faust. Not very profound, and not very complex musically - just melody after melody after melody. But what melodies ! On the other hand, there is Ballad of Baby Doe. Haunting story, and tragic end, for one of the best women in opera. read more
