What is your opinion of David Hume?

I think that his enduring stature results from him being a wealthy Scottish writer in the 1700s who had enlightening discussions with a Jesuit monk who had just returned to France from the far east. He blended together British empiricism, Jesuit classicism, and the first influx of Buddhist eastern philosophy. read more

David Hume is, and history will record him as, one the most influential minds of Western Philosophy. He wasn’t perfect but his works on the foundations of science (The Problem of Induction) and demolition of religious notions remain vital and relevant today picking out what remains the essence of those problems. read more
