Pretty much the same jobs we do- plumbers, barbers, engineers, road-layers, tanners, religion, taxation, accounting etc etc. Cities were centres of trade and thus, most had a thriving, powerful merchant class as well. read more

Most cities were pretty small then- barely more than 50,000 people- so there was plenty of farming & animal husbandry done outside the city limits as well. Pretty much the only jobs you didn't have were software engineer and hipster. read more
