I just wanted to add that what made Chernobyl particularly damaging (and contrasting with fukushima) was the large amount of particulate aerosols carrying radioactive elements from the melted core that was released as the containment buildings structure failed under the large overpressure generated from the failing core that experienced a large power excursion with the positive feedback (the more power increased the more neutrons were fissioned the power increased even more). read more
