Around 1974, a group of Hispanic inmates at Arizona State Prison, Florence, formed a prison gang known as the Mexican Mafia. The Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) currently has 8 certified prison gangs (Security Threat Groups). The Old Mexican Mafia was decertified due to a lack of activity.
