This is separate from the overall philosophy of pre-modern Japanese governance, which was not negative towards women but had nothing whatsoever to do with feminism. "Shinto" is very much a small part of a large world of myth and folklore. read more
Shinto, there are Shrine Shinto, the orthodox form which includes Imperial Household Shinto; popular Shinto, the religion of the people; and ³nally Sect Shinto, a set of independent systems. I will not include Sect Shinto here, which I consider to be akin to the New Religions, because its con-tent differs qualitatively from the primary form of Shinto. read more
