I grew up for a part of my university years in the Western Suburbs, in a suburb next to Mt Druitt. It used to be dangerous, however it's not so much anymore. One suburb which used to be notorious for violence was Bidwill; it's still not safe to walk around after dark unattended. read more

South-western suburbs I think are dangerous. Whenever you hear about a shooting, it’s always in places like Lakemba or Punchbowl. The western suburbs area is huge and has some very safe areas, such as the Hills District. read more

Sydney is very safe. Murders and violent crime here are rare. Best places to avoid at night (after 11pm) are Kings Cross, the area around Central station particularly George street, and the west/south west suburbs with a large Islamic population like Auburn and Lakemba. Even though I say avoid, your chances of being murdered are EXTREMELY rare. read more
