Terns. Several species of terns frequent Ballona, but they vary by season. In summer one sees the Elegant Tern and the Least (smallest) Tern. In fall and spring you may see the large Caspian or Royal terns as they migrate through the area. Terns hover over the water, then dive for fish. read more
