Such aircraft have a very high thrust/weight ratio. On land they can use short, improvised strips for take off and they can land on any solid surface. Afloat they don't need arrester cables for ;landing back on. Low speed flight per se is almost never useful in air combat. However, such aircraft can achieve fabulous turn rates which can be very handy. read more
