According to Howard Zinn’s A People's History of the United States, Andrew Jackson purposefully broke treaties with Native Americans. He encouraged white settlers to settle Native American lands and when conflict arose, Andrew Jackson “persuaded” Native Americans to move west if they wanted federal protection. read more
