The arms race was simply the race between nations to develop newer, more powerful weaponry to defeat their enemies. World War 1 was, in most areas, a stalemate, and the powers fighting it were seeking new weapons to help break that stalemate, since these powers wanted to be the first to develop new weapons, they raced to research and develop new technology to help the war effort. read more
