In 1969, my parents agreed they should not have any more children, and Mum would get sterilized , while in hospital. Dad asked if he could be at the birth. However - in the end he could not bear to see her in so much pain. I think she felt relieved that he would not be there, as she felt giving birth was an undignified process. read more
