I think that Newton's mission in life changed over the course of his life. Up till his middle aged years he had the great mission, which the vast majority of scientists have, of acquiring knowledge that would explain and possibly improve their/the world. read more
Sadly enough Newton’s mission changed in the later decades of his life into one of self glorification. His developments stalled and all his energy was channeled towards trying, partially succesfully, to put himself at the pinnacle of the Western scientific world. read more
