You do get a difference between tenements in places like Marchmont and places like Leith, but only in that the ones in Leith are smaller cos they were built for poorer people to live in. Tenements are brilliant things and really lovely to live in because you get to know your neighbours. read more
Glasgow tenements were generally built no taller than the width of the street on which they were located; therefore, most are about 3–5 storeys high. Virtually all Glasgow tenements were constructed using red or blonde sandstone, which has become distinctive. read more
The tenements in Scotland weren't just in Glasgow but in most of the cities. They were (are) terraced blocks with usually six or seven flats in each block. They would either have outside toilets or shared toilets on each landing. read more
