i doubt predator species would go extinct or anything, but some would struggle to find other food sources. Fruit fly larva do help with the decomposition of organic matter, but so do lots of other species. The biggest impact to humans would actually be in the study of genetics. read more

Flies play a critical role in the decomposition and removal of rotting material as well, and we'd see an impact there too. While I doubt that humans would go extinct, there's no promise that a lot of humans wouldn't die or that our society wouldn't shift greatly under such a stress (or, in fact, completely change into something else). read more
