For me, it's "Dear Lord" from the Transitions album. There's something that I feel reflects the very nature of God running throughout the entire piece. It's patient, doesn't hurry along, it's pensive, inward-looking. Perhaps it's the key of the song, but D major always conjures a peaceful, or otherwise lighthearted feeling. read more

I think that the most beautiful song written by John Coltrane is the lovely ballad "Naima", which he wrote for his first wife. I have heard several different versions performed by Coltrane himself, and quite a few recorded by other artists, all of them beautiful in their own ways. read more
