Usually here the vibrato breaths life into the music. It can be overdone, but not easily. In other styles of jazz, Solo playing is perfect for vibrato on long notes but section parts are best strait up without vibrato. Not that I don't use it. In orchestral I will only use noticeable vibrato when I am soloing, and that is rare. read more
When applying vibrato to a trumpet note, the pitch remains the same while the volume and intensity of the note fluctuates. In other words, the pitch did not go up or down. It actually got louder and softer as the vibrato was applied. read more
