O.k. sorry to ask that question like a 5 year old. But seriously, I've never known how it works. Do most K-9 handlers take their dog home after the shift or do most departments have a kennel where the dog eats and sleeps, etc? read more

In the UK, dog handlers take their dogs home at the end of a shift. They are working dogs and not pets. They are usually housed in a cage or run in the officer's garden with a kennel inside for them to sleep in. read more
Most are supposed to be kept outside I believe, some can probably stay as pets such as sniffer dogs while they are still working, but they can be dangerous especially if the family has children. They need to stay with the handler so a bond remains. read more
