The word "mummy" comes from the medival Latin usage of "mumia" which was borrowed from the medieval Arabic word "mumiya (مومياء) which means embalmed. In the Medieval English usage however it did not refer to Mummies as in the preserved bodies as we understand in modern usage. read more
