Yosemite Valley is ridiculously crowded in August (as well as being hot). To avoid the crowds, head up to the Tuolumne / High Sierra. I'd just go into the wilderness permit office and then ask the rangers where you should go. They'll look at which trailheads are less crowded, have good views, etc.. read more
