Where to put thermometer in whole chicken?

Best Answers

Please bear with me as I am very new to this. I've been trying to bake chicken using a meat thermometer. I have tried breast, thigh, and drumstick, all with bones in. I have a leave-in-the-oven thermometer that I put in the bird before it goes in the oven. Sometimes this turns out to be fine, other times the chicken is raw in the middle. read more

Plunge your thermometer through the skin attaching the chicken's leg to its body. This should result in your thermometer being partially buried in the chicken's thigh meat. If you strike a bone, remove the thermometer and try again. Being in contact with a bone can interfere with the thermometer's accuracy. read more

When cooking whole poultry, the food thermometer should be inserted into the thickest part of the thigh (avoiding the bone). A whole turkey is safe when cooked to a safe minimum internal temperature of 165 °F as measured with a food thermometer. read more
