Mahabharata follows the classic Indian narrative structure of a story within a story. The story starts with the arrival of the bard, Ugrashrava Suta/Sauti at the hermitage of the Saunakas at Naimisha. The rest of the story is a narration by Ugrashrava of past happenings.
