Which brands of jeans were most popular in the 1990s and why?

I'm in the Netherlands. In the early 90s it was still Levi's for us, 501, like in the Coca Cola light break commercials with Brad Pitt, but soon after that Diesel, Replay, Tommy Hilfiger and G-Star were very popular. Designer jeans became a true status symbol and brands including Calvin Klein, Jordache and Gloria Vanderbilt were among the most popular in stores.
