Barium nitrate will not neutralize but will convert your spill to a mixture of insoluble barium sulfate and corrosive nitric acid as well as the sulfuric. Sulfuric acid does not really give fumes ( though mists are nasty) but HNO3 can, especially if it comes in contact with other reactive materials (e.g. aluminum equipment). read more
