Which city is better to live in: Vancouver or Montreal?

To be a student in, it's a no-brainer: Montreal. Tuition is at least half (of not lower). Rent is a fraction of what it costs in Vancouver. public transport in the central areas (not the suburbs) is excellent. There is a very liberal attitudes towards rules. read more

Weather, politics, outdoor activities, scenery and taxes: Vancouver is better; Social life, Food, Culture, Public Transit, Night life, Art Scene, Festivals, Architecture, Affordability and proximity to major American and Canadian Cities: Montreal is better. Vancouver's weather and physical setting is far and away the best. Montreal has more history and some would say culture. Either has a range of great Universities, depending on what you want. UBC in Vancouver and McGill in Montreal are both world class. It will cost you more to live in Vancouver, but in most people's opinion it's worth it. read more

To vastly oversimplify, Vancouver is an "outdoorsy" city -- surrounded by mountains, water, and forests, it's great for people who love to hike, ski, cycle, etc. In the winter, snow is rare (except in the mountains) but it can be very rainy. Montreal is more of a cultural hub, with great festivals, events, and nightlife. read more
