Not if it's supposed to have them - one on each toe, makes 16. If it has dew claws on front then it's another 2 and if it also has dew claws on the back then it's yet another 2 making 20 in all. Most dogs only have dew claws on their front paws. read more

Some dogs have this dewclaw on their hindlegs, and a double rear dewclaw is standard for a few breeds, eg Briard, Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Five on a front leg and four on a back leg is most common (18 claws). Five and five (20), and five and six (22) are also seen. I have two dogs with four and four (16). read more
