Which is better for computer science: USC or UIUC?

I would venture to say that the quality of the graduate level is critically important. UIUC has some of the best PhD candidates in the world for CS. While professors will be lecturing, a very significant amount of grading, mentoring, tutoring, etc. comes from TA's at university. read more

I think the key for me would be making the distinction between “pure” computer science and interdisciplinary computer science. UIUC is exceptional in working on high-level computer technologies, while USC is great at teaching students to apply computer technology to other fields, such as motion pictures and computer games. read more

Also UIUC has a much stronger CS department and is cheaper, but USC is located in a better location. USC also has a reputation for having a lot of spoiled rich lazy kids, so don't think it's less of a party environment just because it's private. read more
