I’d say Death Metal. Black Metal has excessive use of tremolo picking. Its a very fast genre. Probably the fastest metal genre. While death metal has fast riffs but not like black metal. The riffs are played with palm muting. Palm muting makes the sound deeper and heavier. Often use of tremolo picking with palm muting. Its the heaviest genre of metal. read more

black metal always sounded heavier because it was so poorly produced, and the vocalists shrieked so high it pierced the ear drums, but in reality black metal isn't much heavier than thrash, to me anyway, my favorite black metal album at the moment is "we own the mountains" by Elite. read more

Death Metal without any sort of growling emplyed at all, will not be called Death Metal. Black Metal can take liberties with the vocal techniques used.
