Mosquitoes are dangerous but diseases are more restricted so they are not a common problem. House flies are strongly suspected of transmitting at least 65 diseases to humans, including typhoid fever, dysentery, cholera, poliomyelitis, yaws, anthrax, tularemia, leprosy and tuberculosis. read more
House flies are also more robust, agile and considerably faster in flight than are mosquitoes. One can become quite skilled at swatting either kind of fly or even grasping them out of the air using the right kinds of hand motions. It takes some practice.
