The Inner Core and the Outer Core are both believed to be mainly nickel and iron, with of course a smattering of the heavy (and radioactive) elements. These heavy elements contribute much of the Earth's internal heat, though simple compressive heating also plays its part. The other heavy elements would include gold and platinum. read more
