As far as I can tell, "My Generation" may be the earliest rock example, recorded in 1965. (e.g. "Lola" was in 1970, "Changes" was in 1971.) There is the long-standing "amphetamine" story about Daltrey's delivery in the song, but that seems to have been busted. read more
