Sorry, da Vinci cannot be considered for greatest pencil draftsman of all time. The graphite pencil was not invented until 40 years after he died. He used charcoal, chalk, an oiled chalk or crayon (what we would now call conte), silverpoint (a sharpened silver wire used to draw on a clay-coated surface) or ink. read more
