Who killed candy's dog?

In the novella, Of Mice and Men, Candy's dog is shot by Carlson. Carlson tells Candy that the dog smells, has no teeth, is blind--in other words, the dog is too old and isn't good for anything anymore. Carlson offers to shoot the dog for Candy. The death of Candy's dog is corresponding to the final section when George shoots Lenny in the back of the head just like Carlson does to the dog. It's also shows the hierarchy of power on the ranch as Candy is seen to have little power and Carlson takes advantage. read more
