On 25 September, a week before the Battle, Aidid supporters shot down a 101st Airborne Division Black Hawk with an RPG and killed three crew members near the New Port in Mogadishu. It was the first time a helicopter had been downed in Mogadishu, and the event was a huge psychological victory for the SNA. read more
