The instruments were the accordion, bagpipes and harmonica. Most people picked the accordion. I can understand why people might prefer the guitar and piano to the accordion. I cannot understand why they think it's more annoying than bagpipes or harmonicas. Especially harmonicas. I've heard so much beautiful accordion and bagpipe music. read more

So, to summarize, for specifically accordions (not melodeons), I think accordions are expensive because they technically complicated to produce, used to be popular and a large number were manufactured in the middle of the twentieth century, thus flooding the market with used accordions (many of these are also broken now). read more
