Why are black bear hamsters so expensive?

I didn't think Syrian (black bear) hamsters were that expensive. At both PetCo and PetSmart they're only $15 or $20. It's more the supplies that's expensive, such as getting a 360 square inch cage and a large wheel. read more

The next isle had the same thing- long haired and normal syrians were $12 and 'fancy' Teddy bear hamsters were $20 ( a normal all black syrain with white coated feet) I know this labeling and pricing has gone on for a long time, and of course they were all adorable, I just found it kind of odd at the outrageous range of pricing for the same species of animal. read more
