Since police tend to organized by a local or county basis, they are more often than not affiliated with the political affiliation of the leadership. A big portion of this comes back to the rural-urban divide. In rural areas, usually dominated by Republicans, police tend to be affiliated with the Republican Party. read more

They are also more vehemently critical whenever perceived police misconduct occurs, while Republican officials are usually more willing to give police the benefit of the doubt.
