Long term vitamin D deficiency, to put it bluntly. Inuit traditional food provided it through seal and whale. Scandinavians, while dabbling in both, dabbled more (so to say) in wheat and other agriculture. Less vitamin D. More need for an increased capability to absorb it from the sun. In time it equalled less melanin to achieve such an end. read more
