It is a bit of an odd name, considering pinnipeds are more closely related to bears. I don't know for certain, but I suspect it was due to several observations. One, they are carnivorous and fairly vicious predators with quite pronounced canines. read more

April 14th, 2012 - Whidbey Island, Washington On a recent Gray Whale watching cruise the boat came across a Steller Sea Lion sunbathing peacefully on a buoy just off Possession Point on the southern end of Whidbey Island. read more
