First off, I don't think there are many people who are against the very concept of welfare, that is against helping people in need. For this it would require some extreme philosophy, like social darvinism or the belief that every person actively 'earned' their current (mis-)fortune and that it is wrong to interfere with that in any way. read more

People on welfare usually have serious issues, and yes, I'm sure some of them like being on it because otherwise they would probably have to do difficult, painful physical labor to earn a living. The most abused form of government income is disability, not welfare, food stamps or WIC. read more
