In the strict sense it would include Spanish and Portuguese but in the common usage it is restricted only to Spanish. Italians, Portuguese and Spaniards are speaker of Latin (i.e. romance) languages but are not Latinos, because they live in Europe and not Central or South America. read more

I've noticed that you tend to favor Hispanic quite a bit more than Latino; thank you. The Latins as a people, a culture, a language, a tribe, came from ancient Italy. On employment applications or government forms, the race/ethnicity section doesn't include anyone other than Hispanics as synonymous with Latin(o). read more
