The Ottomans did conquer a large chunk of South Eastern Europe. Eventually though, European rulers formed a grand alliance against them, turned the tide and over centuries reversed their gains. read more
The Ottoman Empire never struck when it had the chance (and it never had a chance to conquer all of Europe). Maybe the earlier Caliphs could’ve (though, maybe not) invaded and conquered Western Europe. read more
The Ottoman army was the largest in Europe, its navy ruled the shipping lanes of the eastern Mediterranean, and its capital Istanbul was five times the size of Paris. Its resources seemed limitless, and its capacity to sweep aside opposition in the name of Islam gave the Turkish Empire an awesome presence. read more
