Apollo 13 failed its primary objective: land on the moon, collect geological samples and return safely to Earth. However, it has become known as the ‘successful failure’ because , despite an explosion in their main engine and fuel cells, they did return to Earth safely and unharmed. This was extremely unexpected, given the nature of the accident. read more
