Other than British Guyana (now Guyana) and the Falkland Islands, Britain had no formal colonies in South America. There was an unsuccessful invasion of the Río de la Plata in modern day Argentina and Uruguay as part of the Napoleonic Wars, but in general the Monroe Doctrine prevented Britain and other colonial powers from squabbling over South America. read more
